Itinerary
Name: Day 1: Harry Potter & The Hogwarts Express
Short Description: Our story begins in enchanting Edinburgh. As we depart the city for the day, your guide will reveal Edinburgh’s claims to Harry Potter fame. Soon, our journey north will showcase views of the iconic Forth Bridge: a stunning landmark which was completed in 1890 and became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2015. We pass the Kingdom of Fife and Perth, the ancient capital of Scotland, before entering the wildly gorgeous Scottish Highlands. Brace yourself for the beauty of the west coast and catch a glimpse of the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct as we pass – you’ll be travelling across its stunning arches next! It’s time to board the Harry Potter train AKA Jacobite Steam Train. The train departs from the fishing village of Mallaig and takes you on a journey across one of the world’s most beautiful railway lines. It’ll blow your wee socks off! After this epic two-hour ride, it’s time to disembark the train and reunite with your guide at Fort William train station to continue your adventure by coach (bus). There is more dramatic scenery to come, in the shape of atmospheric Glen Coe - backdrop for several scenes in Harry Potter and the home of Hagrid’s Hut – which gives way to the remote and rugged Rannoch Moor. Immerse your imagination in tales of Scotland’s past, all the way back to Edinburgh, arriving in the late evening.

Name: Glen Coe
NameShort: Glen Coe
As far as Scottish scenery goes, you don’t get more dramatic than the mighty Glencoe. ‘Glen’ is Gaelic for valley, and this jaw-dropper was deeply carved into the landscape during the Ice Age. From the sprawling peaks to crystal-clear rivers, Glencoe is guaranteed to blow your wee socks off.
Glencoe translates as the ‘weeping glen’, and it certainly lives up to its name. Waterfalls run from misty peaks through the glen’s gorges and creases, and are particularly dramatic after a downpour of “liquid sunshine”. Glencoe’s name also reflects the sad history of the clan who once lived there. In 1692, the government redcoats murdered Clan MacDonald in their beds, as punishment for their Jacobite allegiance. This bloody and brutal betrayal of Highland hospitality is remembered in history as the Massacre of Glencoe. Glencoe is dominated by majestic mountains which completely contrast the vast and flat expanse of its neighbouring Rannoch Moor. Buachaille Etive Mòr, which overlooks the moor, is a bonnie brute of a mountain, and a fond favourite with photographers. We think that Glencoe is the most photogenic when the weather is moody and atmospheric.

Three bonnie bridges over the Forth, each from a different century. The Queensferry Crossing opened in 2017, but the iconic railway bridge is our favourite. The Forth Bridge is an epic feat of engineering, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
