Itinerary
Name: St Andrews Tour from Edinburgh
Short Description: Our St Andrews tour from Edinburgh kicks off in the morning, aiming east along the Fife coast. The coastline drive here is full of surprises, passing by epic coastal scenery, colourful boats, and stone cottages that seem frozen in time. First stop: Anstruther. It’s a working fishing village with history in every nook. Watch the locals haul in their catch, wander the pier, and maybe enjoy some fish and chips while swapping stories with your fellow travellers. Next up, St Andrews. Here you can go your own way: visit St Andrews Castle and peek into its infamous Bottle Dungeon or take a stroll to St Andrews Cathedral. You can climb St Rule’s Tower for sweeping views or just wander among the ruins to soak up the atmosphere around the cathedral’s graveyard. Golf fans can swing by the Old Course, the world’s oldest course and a must-see for anyone into the game. On the way back, we stop in Falkland, Scotland’s first conservation village. Wander past restored cottages and visit Falkland Palace, once home to Scottish royalty. Outlander fans might recognise the village square from the show’s first episode. Before we head home, we cross the Forth Bridge, a striking UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Scotland’s most impressive engineering feats. Your day wraps up in the early evening, leaving plenty of time to chill and head out for some dinner in town after.

Name: Falkland
NameShort: Falkland
Falkland is a fairy-tale village in the Kingdom of Fife. From its quaint wee buildings and pretty flower baskets, to the French renaissance palace, Falkland is a total charmer. The centuries-old streets are used regularly in the filming of Outlander, most recognisably as Inverness in the 1940s and 1960s.
Wandering through the Falkland is like stepping back in time. Falkland became Scotland’s first conservation village in the 1970s, and its twenty-eight listed buildings are still looking mighty fine. The village’s star attraction is the 500 year old Falkland Palace; a stunning royal residence and a favourite country escape for Mary Queen of Scots and the Stuart Monarchy. The palace is also home to the world’s oldest real tennis court. Falkland’s has shot to worldwide fame thanks to hit TV series Outlander. The village first appears as 1940s Inverness, where Claire and Frank meet the mysterious Mrs Baird and Reverend Wakefield on their second honeymoon. It is from the window of the Covenanter Hotel – which appears as Bairds B&B – that Claire sees the ghostly figure of Jamie standing by the Mercat Cross. There’s no guarantee you’ll see him too, but you will fall in love with Falkland.

Three bonnie bridges over the Forth, each from a different century. The Queensferry Crossing opened in 2017, but the iconic railway bridge is our favourite. The Forth Bridge is an epic feat of engineering, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
